So I thought I’d pop around here and give you all a quick update on what’s going on over on this side of the world. Right now I’m sitting at our dining table in our new apartment surrounded by STUFF! It’s amazing when you put all your belongings into one space and realise HOLY CRAP I have WAY too much stuff! I mean I think we could get away without most of this stuff but what can you do.
Speaking of space we ran into a huge MAJOR problem today! This morning the truck came with all our furniture that we shipped over from the U.S. and let me tell you now English homes (apartment in our case) and American furniture DO NOT mix! We couldn’t get our sofa to fit inside! Granted it is a fairly big sofa but yeh there was just no way… AND our coffee table was also way TOO BIG for the space we’re in! Luckily we have a month or so of free storage so we sent those back with the truck and will have to try and sell them online here via Ebay or Gumtree! Oh man I’ll tell you what as soon as they started bringing the furniture in I was thinking we should have sold all of this back in America and started fresh here! Live and learn I guess… live and learn!
Anyway it’s just so amazing to see the difference in size of the apartment we have here and the one we had in Michigan! I mean the one in Michigan by comparison to this was HUGE! All I can say is that Ikea will be our best friend over here… we’re going to need some more storage space… not to forget a new sofa AND coffee table!
Apart from the apartment being smaller everything else is pretty nice! First off it’s a BRAND NEW apartment and we’re the first to live in it! Funnily enough one of the landlords lives in America! There is a river that runs right outside which we can see from the window in the living room, which is nice… I alway like some nature around! The appliances are all also pretty nifty… all Smeg (an Italian brand). I especially LOVE that there is an induction cooktop! The oven is smaller than what I’m used to but it looks good and has a grill on top.
I’m excited to start creating meals in this new kitchen! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a recipe but hopefully soon once everything is sorted and put in its place I’ll start up again! I’ll also make sure and take photos of the apartment to put up on here!
Have you ever had to move into a smaller space? How did you cope with it?

Thank you! Yep it’s definitely challenging but yes it does feel liberating at the same time… I just think of it this way… Less space to clean ;)
It’s nice that you are in an apartment with a nature view. I know it will all come together well inside, too. To answer your question, I have moved into a much smaller space more than once. Each time it was very liberating. I loved the idea of not being overly attached to my possessions. And that allowed for a focus on the people in my life. Plus, the challenge of arranging everything and making it work tapped into a creative place that was so much fun. Enjoy the process!
