Gut Healing Herbal Tea Gummies

Plate of herbal tea gummies

Ever since I gave up drinking coffee (for the most part!) I’ve been drinking more and more herbal teas. I have a large collection of different teas at home so there’s never a chance that I might get sick of having just one kind! I usually drink a cup in the morning and sometimes I might have a mint tea after one of my meals or drink some chamomile tea before bed. In the mornings I usually drink Rooibos tea, which is a great alternative to coffee. Anyway I was recently flipping through my copy of this book which I LOVE and recommend for anyone living this paleo/primal lifestyle… especially for the newbies! It had been a while since I had many any of the recipes in the book (when you’re a food blogger working on your own recipes can take up time!), but when I was flipping through it recently and saw a recipe for tea gummies I definitely wanted to try it out!  Now the cool thing about these gummies is that they’re not your supermarket bought, loaded with crap type gummies but they’re actually good for you! The reason for this is because of the gelatin used. If you make your own bone-broth you may have noticed how, hopefully once it has cooled down it will gel, and this is due to the collagen in the bones. This gelatin helps to soothe to GI tract and to improve digestion, which is especially important for those with leaky gut issues. Other great benefits of gelatin are that it helps to improve the quality of your hair, skin and nails. It is a REAL superfood! For this recipe I used this gelatin, I’m not 100% sure that the gelatin here comes from grass-fed cows but in future I will order some of this gelatin. I bought the gelatin I used a while back and I don’t often make these sort of things so I didn’t think it cost effective to buy more gelatin, plus the latter is hard to get here in the UK. If you can get your hands on the latter gelatin, then do so as that is 100% made from grass-fed cows which will give you even more benefits!

Adapted slightly from this book.

Herbal tea gummies

Ingredients:
  • 4 cups water.
  • 4 herbal tea bags. (I used one with a fruity flavour that included things like hibiscus, elderberry, blackcurrant, and blueberry).
  • 3-4 Tbsp gelatin. (I used this one but this one is better if you can get it).
  • Raw honey/maple syrup to sweeten, as desired.
Method:
  • Boil your water and make your tea as desired.
  • Remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool slightly.
  • Add in your sweetener of choice, how much is up to you, then stir in your gelatin.
  • Pour into a glass dish and place in the fridge to set.
  • Once set, remove from the fridge and slice into pieces. Enjoy!

This is brilliant! I just bought beef gelatin but didn’t want to use fruit juice to make it but couldn’t figure out what else to use. TEA!! I’m so excited to try this! 🙂
