Persian Roasted Butternut Squash Soup

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a recipe post here! As you may know Joe and I were away visiting family in Australia for about 6 weeks and we just returned back to England about a week ago. As you may imagine our trip was AMAZING and it was just incredible to be able to spend that time with our families and also catch up with friends. I won’t lie, it was hard to leave (again!) and I’ve definitely felt the impact of being away from everyone. Although I’m pretty used to it by now, when you spend a big chunk of time away like that it’s always hard at first to get back into your routine. Anyway other than spending time with family and friends we got to enjoy some GREAT weather while we were there as well, granted it did rain a couple of times but other than that the weather was nice and warm and I definitely took advantage of it! I’m just kind of sad that we missed out on the heatwave that happened this past week with temperatures in the high 40′sC/100′sF! Yeh I might sound crazy wanting to have heat like that but this cold, wet weather in England is making me wish we could just have one day of sunshine and hot weather…. you know the whole ‘the grass is always greener’ thing.

Anyway since it is cold and since the weather is not on the list of things I can control I’ve been using it to my advantage to make delicious warming meals. My slow cooker/crock-pot has been getting a good workout with making bone broths and slow cooked meats, and of course one of the best ways to keep warm is with a nice big bowl of steaming hot soup! Pumpkin Spiced Iced Chai Latte

Hello from Melbourne! I’ve been home for about a week now and over the jet lag I had going for the first couple of days! The flight over was looooooong as you can imagine and Joe and I pretty much didn’t sleep at all (seriously I don’t understand how some people can sleep for the entire flight!). So yeh the first couple of days I was feeling a bit loopy and just in a daze but as I said that’s passed!

We were greeted with warm weather when we arrived, in fact one day it reached 36C/96F but true to Melbourne weather the last few days it we had showers and cold weather! It went down to 8C/46F!!! I had forgotten how unpredictable Melbourne weather can be… luckily I packed a couple of warm things. Today the weather is better and hopefully we will be getting more of that summer sun that I desperately need, because I’m going to need it before I get back to England! [Read more…]

Paleo Rose Water Spiced Stewed Fruit

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend! We had some nice weather here so we tried to make the most of it and spent time outdoors. We also ended up visiting one of the shopping centres (malls) near our place since my phone has been acting up and needs to be replaced. Looking forward to getting my new phone since the screen on this one has been going a bit crazy!

Sunday night is also Downton Abbey night for us… I know this season hasn’t started up yet in the U.S. so I won’t say anything other than so far it’s been quiet interesting to say the least! Do you watch it?

Over the weekend I also made this little sweet treat… I made something similar earlier in the week but wasn’t 100% happy with the flavour so I had to make it again, you know to get it just right! 😉

What I love about this recipe is that there is no added sweetener… no honey, no coconut sugar etc, the sweetness comes from the fruit and from the spices I use. Stewed fruit is delicious and a welcome change at this time of year when just eating fruit cold may not be so appealing. You can eat this on its own or pair it with some eggs in the morning. It would also be a great accompaniment to some homemade coconut milk ice-cream if you wanted a really special treat! [Read more…]

Rooibos Tea Latte

Rooibos tea latte

As some of you may know I had to give up drinking coffee a while back. I still have it occasionally here and there if I’m out somewhere and usually it’s an espresso, but I stopped buying and drinking coffee at home a while back. I do sometimes miss having it in the mornings, especially now that the weather is cooling down but luckily I also really love my tea!

Recently I was at our local supermarket and they had a whole bunch of different teas on sale so I grabbed some and now I have a cupboard full of teas to enjoy! My favourite lately has been roobios tea… which as it turns out is a great caffeine free alternative to coffee.

My latest obsession has been to make roobios tea lattes and now that pumpkin season is here I’ve been adding pumpkin spice to the mix and it tastes GREAT!

So if you’re even in the mood for something different or you’re trying to reduce your coffee intake then give this latte a shot! [Read more…]
