Almond Crusted Chicken with Garlic Cauliflower Mash

Plate of almond crusted chicken and garlic cauliflower mash

It’s cold, it’s cold… IT’S COLD! Did I mention it’s cold? Last night we went walking and I wore so many layers that it was hard for me to even move and today at work the heating wasn’t working properly so I was sitting there freezing and it’s not even officially winter yet!

As if that wasn’t bad enough I have people back home constantly reminding me of how warm it’s getting there and seeing photos of people at the beach or sitting outside at a nice cafe…. NOT FAIR!

On the plus side I think our heating bill will be a lot cheaper this year since for some reason our new apartment gets quiet warm so we don’t need to run the heater all day. Speaking of apartments there’s an old lady that lives in the apartment across from us and she must be in her late 80′s, anyway today she put up Xmas decorations on the door at the main entrance to our building which I thought was so cute and when I complimented her on it she seemed so pleased 🙂 [Read more…]

Kebabs with Roasted Butternut Squash & Zucchini

Plate of kebabs, roasted butternut squash and zucchini

I’m going to start this post by saying THANK YOU! I realised yesterday that I’ve reached 100 followers on my blog and while that may not seem like a huge number I am grateful to those who have decided to follow this little blog of mine and are sharing in this journey with me. So once again THANK YOU for following
and I’ll do my best to continue sharing my food journey (and beyond) with you 🙂

Ok enough with the sentimentalities 😉 Yesterday marked a new beginning for me… a new beginning without coffee! Yes I’ve been on this roller coaster ride with coffee for a while now. I’ll stop for a while and then jump right back on and each time I jump on I know I need to get off but I don’t. So yesterday, after already having had my morning cup of coffee I decided enough was enough and I went shopping and bought myself a whole bunch of greens. Things like spinach, kale and mixed baby greens so that from now on each morning in place of my morning coffee I can make a green smoothie instead.

Since we’re on the topic of food (aren’t we always over here) I made a Persian inspired dinner last night. Well actually it was more inspired by my dad and his amazing skills at making kebabs Iranian style! Kebabs or kababs come in many different forms in Persian cooking and according to Wikipedia there are 29 different kebab variations in Iran (there’s probably more!) Some of which I have never tried myself. [Read more…]

Paleo Rose Water Chai Pancakes & Jam

Plate of rose water and chai pancakes with jam

Yesterday Joe and I FINALLY got up to go walking in the morning… we’d been talking about how it would be so much better to go in the morning while it was still light outside and not at night when we usually go and it’s pitch black (HELLO no street lights!) But since we’ve been talking about it it hasn’t actually happened until finally yesterday I forced us out of bed to go and I’m glad I did!

This week we also had a friend from back home visiting us. He was actually here for work for a week and of course we caught up with him and had a blast! We had him and his boss (who we also know) over for dinner last night and I cooked for everyone… well there were 4 of us to begin with then we had some more people over and well let’s just say it was a FUN night! I didn’t take any photos of the food though, which I’m regretting now! I made a bolognese sauce with grass-fed minced/ground lamb and mushrooms and seasoned it with Ras el Hanout, to go with it I made some roasted butternut squash and as a side dish/salad I made Summer Squash Caprese Noodle Salad from the Practical Paleo. The salad is fantastic and I’ll be making it again soon, this time I’ll make sure to take photos. Everyone loved the food (phew!)

Today I was in the mood for baking (kind of) and I remembered seeing a post recently on Lee from Supercharged Food’s site on Chai Tea Hot Cakes so I decided to make those with a little twist. [Read more…]

Herb Frittata (Kookoo Sabzi)

Plate of herb frittata

It’s officially my birthday month (and Joe’s)!!! So what better way to kick off the month than with one of my favourite dishes.

Isn’t it funny how the smell of food or even just a few ingredients can set off a trigger of memories in your mind? I’ve been craving some Persian food lately and wanted to make something fairly simple for lunch today. A lot of Persian food consists of a lot of ingredients plus somewhat long cooking times and while I’m happy to do that when I have the time and patience sometimes I just want a quick meal.

I decided to make ‘Kookoo Sabzi’ which translated means Herb Frittata. Kookoo = frittata and Sabzi = herbs. There are a few kookoo recipes actually, each made with different ingredients, for e.g. we have Kookoo Sibzamini (sibzamini = potatoes), Kookoo Morgh (Morgh = chicken) and Kookoo Bademjan (Bademjan = eggplant) just to name a few.
