The Gelatin Secret Review

I received ‘The Gelatin Secret: The surprising superfood that transforms your health and beauty’ from my buddy Sylvie over at Hollywood Homestead recently and wanted to share my review here with you. If you’re part of the paleo/primal/real food community you will have noticed that the word ‘gelatin’ or ‘gelatine’ depending on where you’re from, gets thrown around a lot and with good reason. Gelatin really is a superfood and has many far reaching benefits.

In ‘The Gelatin Secret’ you will find over 45 recipes both savoury and sweet that will help you and your family get the benefits of gelatin in your diet. You will also find real food success stories from Sylvie and her husband Eric as well as in-depth information about gelatin, how it can help our bodies in a variety of ways and how to include it in your diet. But before we get into a bit more detail about the book let’s start by defining just what gelatin is… [Read more…]

*UPDATE* The Winner of this giveaway is Jamie M. Congratulations Jamie and thanks everyone for entering!

When ‘The Paleo Foodie Cookbook’ by Arsy Vartanian, the amazing blogger behind Rubies & Radishes arrived on my doorstep I was instantly in love. Just from looking at the cover I knew that this cookbook was going to be a winner and after trying out several of the dishes I can safely say it really is. The title of Arsy’s book really resonates with me because I consider myself a foodie too and when you go through this book you can know it’s coming from a true foodie, someone who has a passion for cooking and eating delicious, quality food. Eat The Yolks book Liz Wolfe

“Can I please have an egg white sandwich with a soy latte to go please?”…. that was me previous to my paleo/real food days. I thought I was being “good” by ordering low-fat, skinny caffeinated drinks from the local cafes I frequented, ordering a soy based coffee was like the ultimate “hey look at me and how healthy I am” and eating an egg white anything was the cherry on top! Review & Giveaway: The Paleo Slow Cooker

*UPDATE: The winner has been chosen… Fatima Sewani is the winner of this giveaway! Thank you all for playing along… I hope to do more of these giveaways in the near future!

The Paleo Slow Cooker Book

Pumpkins, apples, leaves changing colour and making crunching noises as you step on them… warmth and the smell of pumpkin pie spice are all things I associate with this time of year, Autumn/Fall.

There’s something else that’s synonymous with this time of year and that’s the slow cooker. There’s nothing like adding ingredients to a slow cooker, letting it do all the work then coming back a few hours later and opening it up to find a magical smell inside and some delicious food! Slow cooker meals are some of the tastiest! They’re also great because you can use cheap cuts of meat and the low slow cooking process will result in soft, tender meat in the end. Plus, there’s always the time aspect of it… with slow cooker meals you just set and forget AND you can make recipes in bulk so you have leftovers to freeze or enjoy for a few days after.

I use my slow cooker on a fairly regular basis. If I’m not using it to make recipes then I’m usually using it to make bone broth. If you haven’t got one then I HIGHLY recommend you go out and get yourself one, they are not very expensive and are a BIG help in the kitchen!

Speaking of slow cookers, I recently received a copy of ‘The Paleo Slow Cooker’ by Arsy Vartanian of Rubies and Radishes. Arsy was kind enough to send me a copy of her lovely book… actually it was there waiting for me at our new place on the day we moved in! What an amazing welcome home present that was :).
