Lemon Tarragon and Garlic Chicken

When it comes to cooking, one of the most useful pieces of kitchen equipment you can have… and should have is a slow cooker. I use mine multiple times a week and I’m actually considering getting a second one at some point, just so I can have more than one thing going at a time, which would be especially useful for when I’m making bone broth.

Slow cookers are great for any time of year really, and you can get a lot of food made with minimal effort, all you have to do is wait! One of my favourite things to make in my slow cooker is a whole chicken. There are a million different ways to dress up a whole chicken and you’ll even end up with leftovers to use during the week (watch out for a leftover chicken salad I’ll be sharing in an upcoming post!). The Paleo Slow Cooker Book

Pumpkins, apples, leaves changing colour and making crunching noises as you step on them… warmth and the smell of pumpkin pie spice are all things I associate with this time of year, Autumn/Fall.

There’s something else that’s synonymous with this time of year and that’s the slow cooker. There’s nothing like adding ingredients to a slow cooker, letting it do all the work then coming back a few hours later and opening it up to find a magical smell inside and some delicious food! Slow cooker meals are some of the tastiest! They’re also great because you can use cheap cuts of meat and the low slow cooking process will result in soft, tender meat in the end. Plus, there’s always the time aspect of it… with slow cooker meals you just set and forget AND you can make recipes in bulk so you have leftovers to freeze or enjoy for a few days after.

I use my slow cooker on a fairly regular basis. If I’m not using it to make recipes then I’m usually using it to make bone broth. If you haven’t got one then I HIGHLY recommend you go out and get yourself one, they are not very expensive and are a BIG help in the kitchen!

Speaking of slow cookers, I recently received a copy of ‘The Paleo Slow Cooker’ by Arsy Vartanian of Rubies and Radishes. Arsy was kind enough to send me a copy of her lovely book… actually it was there waiting for me at our new place on the day we moved in! What an amazing welcome home present that was :).

Slow Cooker Spicy Chicken with Grilled Peaches

Slow cooker spicy chicken with grilled peaches

Is it just me or does it feel like the warm weather just flew by in a flash? I’m not sure how it is where you live but it’s definitely getting much colder in our part of England! I should be grateful though for the fact that we had a pretty decent summer by English standards this year… and I am, grateful.

With Autumn (Fall) upon those of us living in the Northern hemisphere, it’s time to switch up those light summer recipes into the cosy warm recipes that Autumn has to offer. When we were living in Michigan, this was my favourite season. I loved seeing the leaves on the trees change colour and all that was involved in the Season over there. Americans definitely go out all out when it comes to these things, much more than the Australians and the English as I’ve seen so far! I LOVED all the pumpkins everywhere during this time in the States… I’m glad I had a chance to experience that! [Read more…]
